"A blend of 40% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, with 20% Merlot, the 2019 Red Blend delivers juicy, lip-smacking berry fruit. This medium to full-bodied red is fun and easy to drink, finishing with a dusting of soft tannins." - Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski)
"There are just 75 cases of Hossfeld's 2018 Malbec, a wine that offers up assertive notions of pencil shavings and juicy cherry-berry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, creamy and ripe, with a tart, dusty finish, it should drink well young and for at least another seven or eight years." -Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski)
"The 2019 Red Blend checks in as a blend of 40% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, with the balance Merlot, that spent 20 months in French oak. Its deep purple hue is followed by an up-front, exuberant red offering lots of candied red and black fruits, notes of violets, tobacco, and flowery incense, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink this solid, impeccably made blend over the coming decade or more." -Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2019 Red Blend is loaded with inky red/purplish fruit, mocha, rose petal, lavender and sage. This racy, voluptuous red blend is supple, open-knit and ready for business." -Vinous (Antonio Galloni)
"Mulberries, plums, dried basil, cedar and some menthol on the nose. Full-bodied with firm tannins. Fleshy, with structure and fruity character. Flavorful finish. Drink from 2023." - James Suckling on the 2018 Coliseum Block Cabernet Sauvignon
"Had the Malbec at 1881 in Oakville. Bought a few bottles to take home due to how amazing it was."-Elvin J
"Recently enjoyed a bottle of the Coliseum Block Cabernet. Amazing explosion of flavors after decanting for an hour or so." - Robert S
"At the tip of Atlas Peak, there’s a small family grower producing amazing wines. The Hossfeld's have been well-known for growing some of the best mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, but very few know about their stunning Malbec. These iron-rich soils produce aromas of dense blueberry, plum, and raspberry. The body is full of energy, blackberries, and a wisp of crushed rocks. Pair with short ribs and plan to be amazed." - Walter H
"Intensely Layered, Full-Bodied Cabernet! Drink with a seared steak from the BBQ, madeira sauce and roasted potatoes! "-Bryan C
"Twenty years ago people thought Henry Hossfeld was crazy because of the slope and the solid rock he was trying to grow vines on in the south-eastern Napa hills in an area known as Soda Canyon. In fact, at planting, each vine hole was fractured into the terraces with a stick of dynamite. This dramatic site, steep and terraced like a Roman Coliseum has distinctive volcanic soils and as such, the resulting Cabernet fruit is also quite distinctive; structured graphite and herbal scented, compelling flavors. Today, we reap wines with massive fruit extraction, inky black color, and powerful tannins." -Mark Carter, Vintner Carter Cellars
"This wine is rich and intense on the palate with well integrated tannins and a long finish." -Garrett H
